Overview

Detectors need removing from and replacing on their bases for various reasons. At height, this becomes an expensive, time consuming, possibly dangerous operation so a tool on the end of a pole has many advantages.

The challenge is not just height, however. Detectors vary in shape, size and profile. Some are locked. Some are easy to remove. A few are easy to locate. Some are just badly designed.

A detector removal tool needs to grip the detector for removal, hold it when lowering to the floor and then reverse the procedure (while not obscuring sight of the base and re-insertion position). Finally, it might have to cope with detectors fitted at angles. Or which cannot be approached from directly underneath – or both! All without damaging the detector, its fittings or environment.

There are two ways of approaching this – one is to have a bespoke tool for particular detectors, the other is to use a universal tool which is compatible with as many detectors as possible
Over time this universal removal tool has proven itself not just compatible with 'current detectors' but also well able to accommodate new detectors as they are launched - with no changes required to the products already in the field.  ...
