CO detection is increasingly widespread. In the fire detection community, having started in single sensor applications it is now increasingly popular as one element of a multi or combined sensor detector.
Elsewhere, CO sensing, using different CO concentration levels and time constants is used within the toxic gas (or ‘life’) sector – with the two sectors increasingly overlapping. Both applications use limited life electro-chemical cells for sensing and, as standards are now confirming, both need testing for function on an annual basis whether they be in single or multi sensor applications.
While electro chemical cells are cross sensitive to hydrogen the accumulation and use of a flammable gas (which is not the target media in any case) is considered wholly inappropriate for tests in the fire and life safety arena.
Similarly, CO, the correct media, has until now involved very considerable challenges of pressurization, safe storage, transport and delivery to the cell. For the meantime No Climb offers the Solo C3 CO canister.
