Smoke Tunnels/ Production Tunnels

A range of Smoke and Heat tunnels for testing to EN54-7, BS5446-1 & EN54-5 are available for two applications:

Laboratory Tunnels

Laboratory tunnels can be supplied as Smoke only, Heat only or combined Smoke and Heat. They conform to the requirements of EN54 and are designed for customers who are testing detectors for development, QA or type approval purposes. The tunnels come supplied complete with:
  • Control software and hardware interface
  • Aerosol generator – uses liquid paraffin
  • Optical obscuration meter
  • Temperature control facility
  • Double skinned interior
  • Airspeed meter
  • 0.2m/s and up to 1m/s airspeed
  • Flexible detector interface for up to two detectors
  • Ability to test ionisation detectors (MIC required)

An external chiller is required to test down to 0°C Filter paper smoke option for BS5446-1 available

Production Tunnels

Production tunnels can be supplied as either Smoke or Heat tunnels. They are bench top units intended for:
  • testing and calibration in production
  • for quality control purposes
Aerodynamic features smooth the airflow. However they are not intended for type approval testing for compliance with standards.
  • Steel recirculating duct
  • 4 detectors at a time to be tested
  • Detectors mounted on rotating hatch
  • Control software & hardware interface
  • Aerosol generator – uses aerosol cans
  • Optical obscuration meter
  • Temperature control facility for plunge test (heat tunnel)

Notes for all above:

  1. PC for tunnel system is not included
  2. Complete control interface and software (as shown below) is supplied as standard
  3. Special detector interfaces are extra and can be quoted as required
  4. Filter paper smoke generator (BS5446-1) is an option for all smoke tunnels
  5. Obscuration meter normally supplied is 880nm for testing to EN54-7. 560nm for testing to BS5446-1 is available as an option

Laboratory Tunnels:

  1. Self contained aerosol generator is supplied as standard
  2. If Ionisation detectors are to be tested, then the required MIC should be purchased separately from Delta in Denmark
  3. Chiller normally supplied by customer as required

Production Tunnels:

  1. The scatter sensor option is used to maintain a constant aerosol concentration for calibration
  2. The ‘smoke’ used in these tunnels is a special formulation supplied in Aerosol cans, and is available from No Climb – Part no Aero400
