Scorpion helps protect the University of Southampton

Posted in: News

This year has seen significant growth in demand for our Scorpion solution – designed to enable testing of hard-to-access detectors and ASD systems, without disruption and additional cost.

Universities are one of the most popular sites for Scorpion installs, we recently caught up with the team responsible for fire system maintenance at the University of Southampton to see how they use Scorpion to help protect some of their facilities.

The most recent installations of Scorpion at the University have been installed in lift shafts, these all have smoke detectors installed at the top of the shaft – which in order to be tested require a lift engineer on site and the lift to be taken out of service. Chris Chance of Premier Fire & Security was familiar with Scorpion and was quick to identify the benefits it could bring to the University.

Having installed the units in the lift shaft, the next part of the project involves installing Scorpion alongside detectors within ceiling voids.

Here the benefit once again is the elimination of disruption, currently scissor lifts are required to access these detectors and corridors and rooms are taken out of action whilst testing is undertaken – with Scorpion, testing can take place from a convenient location on-site with the engineer close at hand should any urgent remedial action be required.

In addition to the installations in universities, Scorpion has also been installed in transport hubs, warehousing and sports arenas. To learn more, register for one of our CPD webinars on the subject or contact us to discuss your needs.
